Will Young with some yellow balloons

The franchise that spawned dozens of stars around the world started somewhere. And it started in 2002 with Will Young winning the very first edition of Pop Idol, the British and first iteration of the Idol franchise that includes American Idol. But that was then and this is now.

What’s happening now? After several multi-platinum pop albums, sold-out arena tours, and two Brit Awards, Will Young’s most recent release, Summer Covers, has him exploring some of the history of jazz and distilling it into a collection of five covers for the EP.

On the performing side, the opportunities to see him live are rare and are increasingly becoming can’t miss events. Your next opportunity is in the breathtaking Tudor courtyard of Hampton Court Palace for his only scheduled show this summer.

What can you expect? Of course, his current kick is jazz, and you can expect to hear his remarkable take on classic jazz standards. You can also expect to hear some of his own songs, but adapted in a way that tracks his evolution as an artist from his immediate post-Idol days. And of course, his natural magnetic stage presence that connects with the audience even between songs with charming anecdotes and commentary.
