It’s a Saturday, and you have plans to go to a concert. You know you’ll be in Deep Ellum. Maybe you are not sure what venue, but with plenty of options, it’s hard to go wrong… So, whether you know what show you are going to or not, the venue you end up at is the least of your concerns. What you do need to figure out? Your pre-show plans.
It’s easy to indulge in Deep Ellum, so here’s a day-long-preshow guide, with little travel and a lot of satisfaction:
11AM: Glazed Donut Works
website | 2644 Elm St, Dallas, TX 75226
That’s right, we’re starting heavy. Indulge early. At Glazed Donut Works, they pride themselves on making one thing, and one thing only: donuts. With savory (donut grilled cheese with bacon!) and vegan options, this place satisfies more than just a sweet-tooth.
12PM: Kettle Art Gallery
website | 2650 Main St, Dallas, TX 75226
This is a good place to burn off the donut calories and get your brain started.
Deep Ellum is loaded with music venues and bars, but Kettle Art brings the same local tenacity to a different setting. It’s a gallery by-artists, for-artists, and gives any visitor a taste of the local art scene in Dallas.
2PM: Braindead Brewing
website | 2625 Main St, Dallas, TX 75226
Now, let’s cross the street for some drinks! Braindead Brewing offers their own beer as well as plenty of other local brews and a creative food menu. Nothing beats pouring beer and queso into a head full of art.
5PM: Pecan Lodge
website |2702 Main St, Dallas, TX 75226
This is where you’ll find “The Pitmaster.” It’s the all-in-one BBQ sandwich with a bit of a kick. A great sandwich to pair with beer.
Just another quick shot down the street, the Pecan Lodge will keep your day moving strong.
6:30PM: The Twilite Lounge
website | 2640 Elm St, Dallas, TX 75226
With this, we come full-circle. Sitting next to our lead-off (Glazed Donut Works), the Twilite Lounge is a sparkling new bar in Deep Ellum. And while this may very well be the place you end up spending the rest of your night (with live music and no cover), it also serves as a great place to get your last drink before heading to the show. It may even be the place that you go to after the show, to wind down, and perhaps catch more live music.
8PM: To the venue!
Deep Ellum has no shortage of amazing venues, food, beer, and art. Even if you stray from this guide a bit, you are sure to have an enlightening day. Bring your brain, bring your taste buds, and enjoy the show!
