It’s February! You know what that means: everywhere you look, there’s going to be an overwhelming amount of red, pink, sugar, and stuffed animals. For couples everywhere, it’s a month filled with love and maybe a little bit of anxiety on gift ideas for your significant other. For the rest, there’s Galentine’s Day.
What is Galentine’s Day, you might ask? Great question! For those of you who aren’t familiar with the show Parks and Recreation, you might think it’s simply a pun on the holiday commonly referred to as “Single’s Awareness Day.” How wrong you are.
While it’s technically a made-up holiday by a fictional character, I’m pretty sure any excuse to celebrate with your friends is a reason to get excited. It’s a day dedicated to celebrating lady friends and what’s better than that? And there’s really no better holiday for the current moment.
Whether or not you have plans the next day, for this Galentine’s Day, here are some things worth surrounding yourself with all the women in your life for:
1) Eat waffles
There is no better food on earth. Expand it to all breakfast foods and it’s the perfect way to fuel the day.
2) Compliments
Everybody deserves compliments all the time, but this is the time to channel your inner Leslie and let your Ann Perkins know exactly how amazing she is all the time.
3) Treat yo self
Nothing like getting together and doing exactly what you love.
4) Do something good
Nothing is more in the spirit of Galentine’s Day than spreading the word and doing good work for your community and for ladies everywhere.
5) Keep the party going
Keep your Galentine’s Day going all day. In my super refined and well-researched opinion, you should gather all your lady friends and hit the city for a show.
Why not? After all, gig buddies are the best types of buddies. Make Leslie Knope proud and ring in your Galentine’s Day at a concert.
Whether or not you do the other holiday the next day, gather your lady friends on February 13th and celebrate the real meaning of the season, Galentine’s Day. And remember:
