This dark and cozy speakeasy-style bar oozes sex appeal. From the red leather booths to the golden chandeliers, Ranstead Room has a very intimate feel that’s perfect for getting to know someone a little closer.
1 Tippling Place – 2006 Chestnut Street
Nestled in Rittenhouse Square, this joint serves up craft cocktails in a casual lounge setting. Strong drinks, comfy couches, and ambient lighting are sure to have you and your date nice and snug.
R2L – 50 S. 16th Street, 37th Floor
Yes, a bar with a great view might be a tad cliché. However, there is just something about bonding with someone with over dinner, drinks, and a 40-mile panoramic view of the sunset that can’t be easily put into words. Reservations definitely suggested at this upscale romantic lounge.
Turn Up
McGillin’s – 1310 Drury St
Legend has it that this Irish pub has been full non-stop since 1860. Seriously though, McGillin’s always has a good crowd which makes it easier to hide the fact that you’re completely wasted. Cheap pitchers and frequent karaoke make this a perfect spot to have more than a few.
The 700 – 700 N. Second Street
This Northern Liberties bar/club hybrid prides itself on creating the fun vibe of a friend’s house party, except without the cleanup afterwards. This is due in part to the setup of the venue, which essentially looks like what would happen if you fashioned a club inside of a house. Super fun spot, plus no cover charge ever!
Silk City – 435 Spring Garden Street
One of Philly’s most unique spots, Silk City is part restaurant, part beer garden, and part nightclub. Neon red lighting, disco balls, and an old school soundtrack help this place live up to its motto: “Everything old is new again.”
Casual/Group Bars
Monk’s Cafe – 264 S. 16th Street
I’ve already professed my love for this spot here, but to reiterate: this is one of the best bars in the city. A bible’s worth of beer, combined with a great menu & wait staff make this a go-to casual hangout for any time of the day.
Morgan’s Pier – 221 N. Christopher Columbus Blvd
This beer garden is hard to beat during the summer months. Pair an extensive beer selection with ample outdoor seating and you could spend hours here with a group of friends.
Johnny Brenda’s – 1201 N. Frankford Avenue
The Fishtown-area staple is a bar that Philly locals can be proud of. The menu features locally sourced ingredients and the beer selection is primarily local brews. The upstairs venue even highlights the city’s booming music scene. Johnny Brenda’s is truly a spot at the center of Philly culture.
