Record Store Day marks its 10th anniversary in 2017. The day celebrates independent records stores and the influential role they play in our music communities. Record stores around the world celebrate the holiday with special promotions, in-store performances, artist meet-and-greets, and more.
We’ve rounded up our favorite brick and mortar shops in Chicago we think you should visit this Saturday, April 22, 2017 to celebrate music and the record store culture.
606 Records
When: 10 AM to 9 PM
Where: 1808 South Allport
What: Enjoy live DJ sets celebrating the art and empowerment of the female DJ, exclusive Record Store Day vinyls, and giveaways. Line-up includes Samone, LoveBug, DJ Angelfunk, and more!
Bric-A-Brac Records
When: 8 AM to 8 PM
Where: 3156 West Diversey Avenue
What: Come hungry because Bric-A-Brac is offering free coffee from Halfwit Roasters, free doughnuts from the Donut Vault, and vegan pastries from Ash Lemasters. They are also partnering with Lost Lake next door, which will be hosting DJs starting at noon and offering a RSD drink special, the Bric-A-Bracquiri.
Bucket O’ Blood Books and Records
When: 10 AM to 9 PM
Where: 3182 North Elston Avenue
What: Bucket O’ Blood is hosting a Record Store Day luau, complete with tropical-themed drinks, food, and games. They’ve also partnered with The Beer Temple and DMen Tap to raffle off a Great Lakes Brewing Company turntable (receive stamps from all three businesses to enter to win).
Dave’s Records
When: Open to Close
Where: 2604 North Clark Street
What: Dedicated to vinyl, this record shop has never carried CDs and vows they never will. For Record Store Day, they’ll also have Molly’s Cupcakes for those who make a purchase. At 3 PM, see Stonebelly perform a special acoustic set in-store.
Dusty Groove
When: 8 AM to 9 PM
Where: 1120 North Ashland Avenue
What: Don’t miss limited edition titles for sale, the opportunity to spin the “Wheel of Fortune” with every purchase. Refreshments, giveaways, and even live magic!
Gramaphone Records
When: 12 PM to 8 PM
Where: 2843 North Clark Street
What: Gramaphone is the place to go for dance music. The store is celebrating RSD with exclusive new releases and in-store performances by Night Se Journey artists and Mr. White.
Laurie’s Planet of Sound
When: 9 AM to 9 PM
Where: 4639 North Lincoln Avenue
What: Laurie’s Planet of Sound, Lincoln Square’s only independent music shop, is celebrating with limited edition records for sale and live music starting at noon. Don’t miss Chicago’s Dust Bunnies, a four-piece indie group playing folky dream-pop.
Pinwheel Records
When: 9 AM to 9 PM
Where: 1722 West 18th Street
What: Join the folks over at Pinwheel Records for live music, food, and exclusive vinyl releases. We’re excited for ambient singer-songwriter Gia Margaret as well as hip-hop duo Mother Nature.
Record Breakers
When: 8 AM to 11 PM
Where: 2105 South State Street
What: Hit up Record Breakers in the morning for free coffee and doughnuts or in the afternoon for free hot dogs and pop! They’ll also have live music beginning at 10 AM, including a performance by rock-n-roll band The Bottom Dollars.
Shuga
When: 8 AM to 10 PM
Where: 1272 North Milwaukee Avenue
What: Chicago record shops sure do like their coffee and doughnuts! Shuga is offering free Dark Matter coffee and doughnuts to all customers. They are also offering a complimentary limited edition beer glass to the first 300 customers (with purchase).
