Congrats to the Atlanta Braves for moving into their beautiful new baseball palace. Next Friday, the Braves are all set to debut their new park and from all reports, it’s set to be a great environment to play baseball.

However, the park has also been roundly criticized for its location, far from the city center of Atlanta. I believe the terms being thrown around include “middle of nowhere,” “traffic nightmare,” “nowhere to park,” … you get the idea.

If you’re done enjoying the Waffle House in the stadium, you might wonder: Is there anything to do around the stadium? Is this really in the middle of nowhere? Not entirely. If you’re looking for something to do around there after a game, here are a few options you:

Dixie Tavern

If you just go northwest a bit further, you’ll find the Dixie Tavern. Right over the city line in Marietta, GA, it’s a great stop for southern food and live country music. In fact, it’s a favorite of the Zac Brown Band, as they filmed parts of the music video for the Grammy-winning “As She’s Walking Away” here. If you go, try the sweet tea, it’s said to rival some of Atlanta’s best.

Old Vinings Inn

This converted cottage is the perfect country setting. And if you’re already leaving the city for a baseball game, you might as well lean entirely into it. It’s a nice spot for southern favorites, but the real feature is live music in the attic bar. Music begins at 7:30 on Wednesdays and Thursdays and 8:30 on Fridays and Saturdays and it’s an intimate spot for hearing some great local bands.

To be honest, there’s a lot of truth to the criticism of the location of the new stadium. However, there are lots of options as well along I-75 on your way back to Atlanta. This is a great one:

The Loft

This is one of Atlanta’s most intimate music venues and they consistently have great shows. Some upcoming shows include Gnash, Colony House, and Y & T. Yeah, it swings between genres but there’s something for everyone. If the Loft isn’t your scene one night, be sure to check out their sister venues, Vinyl and Center Stage Theater.
