Austra, a Toronto indie synth-pop and dreamy electronica music project, announced last week all proceeds from their new album Future Politics made on Inauguration Day, would be donated to Planned Parenthood. The album was available up on Bandcamp for the day (which also was the release day) as ‘pay as you wish’.

Listen here:

Katie Stelmanis, bandleader and singer, reflected upon what inspired Future Politics, and why she wished to donate such a large proceed to Planned Parenthood:

“I started writing Future Politics in response to what I saw as a fast approaching dystopia. I meant it as a call to imagine something different, a better future … This record is our commitment to envisioning something different as humans, something outside of the current systems of say what you want, take what you want, and give nothing back.”

The pay as you wish period has ended, and the album is now available for download or vinyl purchase here. Austra is currently on tour, hitting several cities all over the United States and Canada in early 2017.
