News broke this week that AEG and Superfly have partnered to launch a brand new festival (name TBD) in Colorado. Both companies are well known for their large scale festivals in other regions of the country, such as California’s Coachella and Tennessee’s Bonnaroo.
AEG Live Rocky Mountains CEO Chuck Morris stated that this project has been in the works since 2010 and if things go according to plan, will be ready for 2018.
Some early speculations indicate the new project will take a similar approach to the lineup construction of Bonnaroo and Coachella, featuring both world renowned artists and local talent.
The two organizers are working to confirm Denver’s Overland Park Golf Course as the venue. The large space has been identified as the area’s best fit to host 30,000-60,000 fans over the course of a weekend. However, Overland Park neighborhood activists and the local music industry committee expressed some concerns over the logistics and consequences for the area if they were to host a large-scale music festival at a meeting on January 30th.
This is by no means a done deal yet, but the train is certainly picking up momentum. We look forward to hearing more details in the next coming months.
