If you grew up listening to emo and screamo music in the early 2000s, the genre probably still holds a special place in your heart. Although it’s great to enjoy old favorites, it’s even more satisfying to find a band who is currently doing the genre justice. Formed in 2011 in Chicago, I Made You Myself offer a fresh take with dark, brooding lyrics and energetic instrumentals.

I Made You Myself expertly combine loud, angry, growled vocals with somber, emotional melodies. Drawing on influences such as Underoath, Norma Jean, Touché Amoré, and Pianos Become the Teeth, this five-piece demonstrates that post-hardcore is still going strong in 2017.

In fact, it was only one month ago that the band unveiled a split-release with Mocklove, an equally awesome post-hardcore outfit from Missouri featuring a female vocalist. The first two tracks, “Leading You Here” and “Scare You Away” are by I Made You Myself, while the other two are by Mocklove. Listen to the split below.

The only thing better than listening to a great post-hardcore band? Listening to it live. Check out I Made You Myself in Chicago this weekend.
