LZR formerly la zona rosa

La Zona Rosa facade, soon to be LZRDo you remember legendary Austin venue La Zona Rosa? Would it ring a bell if I told you it was the last location Prince performed in Austin? Back in the ’90s, it operated underneath C3 Presents and Direct Events. Unfortunately, the 1300 capacity venue closed back in 2013.

New owners had bought the property in 2011 and despite closing the full-time venue in 2013, they have continued to operate the space, hosting large music events in Austin, including South by Southwest events and Apple Music installations.

Despite the occasional continued operation, the Austin music community was sad to see yet another local venue be lost in what has become an increasingly endangered local arts and music scene. Well, good news is here! Kind of…

Thanks to Austin-based tech companies Vast and World Class, La Zona Rosa is being rebranded as LZR, a business and rentable event space. The building went through extensive gutting and renovations, featuring updated features to the 10,000-foot warehouse, as well as a bar space, outdoor patio, and more.

Despite the renovation, LZR will continue to not operate as a public music venue, but instead as a rentable space for concerts, conferences, weddings, and the like.

While the renovations have given the former venue some much needed TLC, we hope there’s a future for the venue to return to its roots permanently as a full-time live music venue. With live music garnering support from local legislation, it’s not too far fetched of an idea. It’s 2017 – anything is possible!
