There is no lack of philanthropic events in the music biosphere from charitable concerts, to artists donating proceeds of their albums, to just an open, caring music community. Sound like something you’d be interested in? Well, Dallas is bringing a new festival to the table: SoundMinds.

SoundMinds is a music community event aimed at raising awareness over mental health issues, including suicide prevention and providing mental health resources. The SoundMinds Music Festival will take place at the Granada Theater in the Lower Greenville neighborhood.

It comes in a year in which we’ve lost many artists to suicide, including Chris Cornell of Soundgarden and Chester Bennington of Linkin Park. SoundMinds would like to encourage discussion on the topic of mental health and wellness, as over “90% of those who die by suicide have an underlying mental illness.” The evening will also outline resources available to those suffering from mental health issues.

SoundMinds’ lineup includes Marc Broussard and Astronautalis with proceeds from the event going to Galaxy Counseling Center, Jonathan’s Place, and Suicide and Crisis Center of North Texas.
