Hard to imagine most people aren’t a huge fan of this move.
On Monday, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that he had signed into law a bill that will criminalize the use of ticket bots to hoard tickets to events, a tactic employed by resellers to markup popular show ticket prices by hundreds and sometimes thousands of dollars.

New York Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman had this to say in a release by the Governor’s Press Office:
“In recent years, it has become almost impossible to find affordable tickets – or even any tickets at all – for all popular shows.
Brokers armed with illegal, high-speed ticket-buying bots have kept too many New Yorkers from attending the shows, sporting events, and cultural experiences that make New York so special.”
The law effectively expands the definition of ticket purchasing software to include the broad and varied array of tools that can be employed to amass tickets before the general public reasonable has access to them.
It also establishes strict minimum penalties, which can include jail-time, for anyone who uses or has a stake in ticket bots, or participates in the reselling of tickets obtained by way of bots.
The law will go into effect in 90 days.
