The Oregonian dropped some knowledge on a brand new venue coming to Portland in 2020. Recently, House of Blues Entertainment applied for a liquor license under the name Rose City Music Hall.

If everything is approved and all construction is completed, Portland will have a brand new 44,000+ square foot live music venue by 2020.

The prospective site is at the current location of Portland’s oldest mall, the Lloyd Center. What started as a $50 million renovation has slowly evolved into something closer to a $100 million upgrade. The new venue will be taking the top floor of the old Nordstrom store in the Lloyd Center.

As you can see from a more recent photo to the left, there is a lot of work to be done, but they have a solid two years to stay on track.

The new venue is said to be offering everything from live music to DJs to comedy shows and is planned to operate from 11 AM to 2:30 AM.

With so much shopping being done online these days, it’s projects like this that are trying to bring an entirely new thought process to brick-and-mortar shopping. Instead of going to the mall to buy a pair of jeans, you go to see a movie, grab dinner, or a show (and then hopefully grab those jeans because you’re there).

Times they are a-changing, but if that means more live venues, we’re all for it.
