Voivod – The Wake
This thrash/progressive metal album is heavy, it’s dark, and it has just enough psychedelic twists and turns to put a smile on your face. The vocals remind me of an insane mix of Ozzy and Henry Rollins. Oh, it’s also almost an hour and a half, so get comfy.
Favorite tracks: “The End of Dormancy” & “Event Horizon”
Joyce Manor – Million Dollars to Kill Me
If you’re looking for a grown-up pop-punk album, this is it. It’s got the quick punchy songs you’re looking for from your youth, but with more complex lyrics, and a bit slowed down. It’s an album you can listen to from start to finish with a grin and a head nod, but don’t blink, because it’s only 22 minutes long.
Favorite tracks: “Big Lie” & “Million Dollars To Kill Me”
Human People – Butterflies Drink Turtle Tears
New York punk rock at its finest with two lead singers and enough angst to float a boat. It’s vulnerable, it’s angry, and it grabs onto that feeling of feeling totally alone while being completely surrounded. It almost feels like early Green Day, 1,039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours era.

Abysmal Torment – The Misanthrope
WARNING: If you listen to this, you may worship the devil sooner than later.This thing is just non-stop brutality. It has a growl that will wake up the dead and musicianship you’d trade a soul for. The name of the band could not be more perfect.
Favorite tracks: “Dread” & “Strains of Brutality”
Supersuckers – Suck It
There’s no question about it, this is country music. But it’s also punk rock, and a little bit hard rock, maybe a tiny bit of classic rock in there. It’s not easily defined, but it’s such a good time that you won’t care. It’s gravely, dirty rock and the perfect album if you wanna get a bit wild this weekend.
Favorite tracks: “The Worst Thing Ever” & “‘Til I Die”
Tor Miller – Surviving the Suburbs
These lyrics will make a lot of people shake their head up and down. They’re personal but so relatable. The eight tracks on this one are all over four minutes and they give you just enough time to really let it all sink in. Tor is really coming into his own on this album and it marks the beginning of something incredible. Super excited for this one.
Favorite tracks: “Sunday Scaries” & “Fade”
Shaed – Melt
Can a song about murder be a love song? They’ve got one (“Silver Knife”), and it’s incredibly poppy for its subject matter. The album could be considered a love album, if you fall in and out of love, as many of us do. It’s beautiful and there’s a yearning in every song that you can’t help but fall for.
Favorite tracks: “Silver Knife” & “Trampoline”
Beak> – >>>
Living somewhere between synth rock, electronic, and a haunted house, this is the most original album of the week. Listening to the album feels like you’re slipping and sliding in and out of reality and with just the right touch of psychedelia, it’s a hell of a trip.
Favorite tracks: “Brean Down” & “King of the Castle”
BONUS EP: Honey Moon – Four More From… Honey Moon
Transport yourself back to the dance in Back to the Future and hold your significant other close. These guys may have been born in the wrong year, but if you want some old-school love songs, you can’t get much better than this.
Favorite track: “(Why Do You Think You’re So) Special?”
BONUS SINGLE: Ben Rice – “Autumn Days”
This guy can do no wrong. We were lucky enough to talk to him this summer about Degraw Fest. With this new single, he’s solidifying himself as much more than a founder and producer. It’s the perfect mix of Band of Horses, Bon Iver, and Ray LaMontagne. Super excited to see what comes next.
