new music friday

For me, as soon as October 1st hits, it’s pretty much Halloween all month long. Next week is Thanksgiving. And the week after that is Christmas. Have you put your New Year’s plans together yet? 2019 is going to be a good one. But first, let’s enjoy this New Music Friday.

Tell us what your favorite from this list is over on Twitter when you’re done listening!

Eric Copeland – Trogg Modal, Vol 1

A bit dark, a bit sinister, but completely danceable. The seven-song album is filled to the brim with heavy repetition and distorted vocals that you may or may not be able to understand. If you want to go down the rabbit hole, put this one on and let it take you away.
Favorite tracks: “Build-A-Brain” & “Fresco”

Tall Heights – Pretty Colors for Your Actions
Folk-pop has never sounded better. There’s a saxophone on a few tracks that you can’t help but fall in love with. Across 37 minutes, they explore electronic, disco, indie rock, and more. Super fun from start to finish.
Favorite tracks: “House on Fire” & “Fire Escape”

Atmosphere – Mi Vida Local

A rap album that breaks the mold with everything from heavy bass to gorgeous acoustic guitar riffs. This one is an oddly mature album and while it may not be as fast as a lot of the stuff coming out recently, it’s got a flow that you can’t deny.
Favorite tracks: “Mijo” & “Virgo”

High on Fire – Electric Messiah

Make sure all of your delicate things are secured because this album is a rager. The artists can’t be held accountable for random moshers who will inevitably show up when this is put on. It’s heavy and faster than should be humanly possible, then again, it’s called Electric Messiah for a reason.
Favorite tracks: “Drowning Dog” & “Spewn From The Earth”

Fucked Up – Dose Your Dreams

This. Thing. Is. A. Beast. Chiming in at an hour and twenty-two minutes, it traverses everything from hardcore punk to psychedelic to haunting electronic to garage rock. If you’re looking for something that has a mix of everything, with a bit of an edge, and a feeling like they might have just dosed your dreams, this is it.
Favorite tracks: “Living in a Simulation” & “The One I Want Will Come For Me”

mewithoutYou – [Untitled]

This album balances right on the edge of hardcore, indie rock, and experimental art rock. Incredible musicianship with vocals that flip back and forth between screaming directly into your face and caressing your cheek. This is the kind of music that will put a shiver in your spine and you’ll go back for more later.
Favorite tracks: “Winter Solstice” & “Flee, Thou Matadors”

Exes – Before You Go

This might be the shortest album of the week, but it could also be one of the most beautiful. It’s got the perfect title because every song feels like a relationship is over, but there’s just one more thing the singer has to get off her chest. It’s a goodbye kiss of a record.
Favorite tracks: “Everything” & “Over”

ICE NINE KILLS – The Silver Scream
It’s heavy, it’s dark, and honestly, it’s a bit scary. The fact that it’s got songs with names like “The American Nightmare” and “Enjoy Your Slay” make this the perfect October album. And it’s got 13 tracks, which did not slip by me. If you like hardcore/hard rock, this has to be on the playlist all weekend long.
Favorite tracks: “Merry Axe-Mas” & “The American Nightmare”

BONUS EP: Hawksburn – The Way Out
This one only has two songs on it, but they’re both perfect lil’ dance tracks to get you moving. Hopefully, this is just a taste of what’s to come in the way of a full album. Up to this point, he’s only put out a few singles and we want more!
Favorite track: “The Way Out”

BONUS EP: K?D – Find Paradise
A second bonus EP, this one by k?d, a Four Over Four favorite! This one is six tracks of gold with a bit of a dark industrial vibe to a few songs. If you’re looking for some hardstyle that might just make you dance into another dimension, this one will treat you nicely.
Favorite tracks: “Electronic Memories” and “Destroy the Universe”

See you next week!
