new music friday

New Music Fridayers… that makes sense, right? I’m gonna say yes. Anyway, there’s a ton of new music today, so let’s just dive in, shall we?

Ride – Weather Diaries

It’s been 21 years since this shoegaze band released a record, but hopefully this new releases means fans won’t have to ever wait that long again. It’s a solid rock album with some electronic thrown in for good measure. If you ever loved Ride, you’re sure to love this. A solid showing two decades later.
Favorite Tracks – “Charm Assault & All I Want”

The Drums – Abysmal Thoughts

Are you sitting down? Listen to the album, listen to any song, it’s one guy. He plays every instrument, wrote every song, and sings it all. While, losing Jacob Graham definitely changes the sound a bit from their last album, Jonny Pierce does an incredible job. And don’t let the title sway you, this is a happy album full of upbeat danceable tracks.
Favorite Tracks – “Shoot the Sun Down & Blood Under My Belt”

Royal Blood – How did we get so dark?

First off, this is my favorite name of an album in a long time. This is also what it sounds like to welcome in the resurgence of British Rock. With songs like, I Only Lie When I Love You, Looks Like You Know, Hook, Line & Sinker, Hole In Your Heart, and Sleep… it could be a tribute to every relationship you’ve started and ended, but with rock n’ roll instead of rock’n the boat.
Favorite Tracks – “Lights Out & I Only Lie When I Love You”

Michael Nau – Some Twist

If you’re ready to transport yourself back into the leather seats of a ’73 Oldsmobile with fuzzy dice hanging in the mirror, this is your album. It’s just super happy, melodic guitar/piano/vocals flowing like a Sunday morning. This album makes you feel like the sun is on your face, even if it’s raining.
Favorite Tracks – “Good Thing & How You’re So For Real”

Ekoplekz – Bioprodukt

I’d imagine this is what it would sound like to float through the vastness of space and time. With blips, and beeps, and an almost airy calmness to it all. This is the perfect chillaxing music. If you just want to slip away and float in your favorite chair or bed, this is it.
Favorite Tracks – “Transcience & Elevation”

Palehound – A place I’ll always go

Compared to their debut back in 2015, this one is a little more subdued, but the entire album claws its way through your emotions and gives a view of someone who’s lost love more than once. Once you get to the end of the album, you have a real sense of completion, and as it’s titled, “At Night I’m Alright With You.”
Favorite Tracks – “Feeling Fruit & Flowing Over”

Com Truise – Iteration

According to Seth Haley, this album finishes the story of a robot astronaut who fell in love while serving time on a battle mission, from his 2011, Galactic Melt. This record is a midtempo joyride through a slow motion space paradise. Travel safe out there.
Favorite Tracks – “Iteration & …Of Your Fake Dimension”

Goldie – The Journey Man

If you think you’re diving into a drum n’ bass album, think again. This lil’ gem traverses a world of everything from soul to jazz to… well yeah, there definitely is drum n’ bass on it, he’s a pioneer of the genre, but it’s so much more than that. If you’re looking for something to chill out to, and rage to… this is your jam.
Favorite Tracks – “I Think Of You & The Mirrored River”

Fleet Foxes – Crack-Up

The indie folk movement is alive and well with these guys. With their third LP, they’re showing just how dense and overall complex they can be, while still giving fans a rewarding album. Tracks like the 8:45 beast, Third of May/Ōdaigahara, show just how much diversity you can put into a single song.
Favorite Tracks – “Third of May/Ōdaigahara & Crack-Up”
