A collaboration between Seattle’s very own Paul Allen, KEXP and the Alliance for Pioneer Square has given birth to a new three-day festival, dubbed the Upstream Music Fest + Summit, that will feature over 200 artists in more than 25 different venues and spaces.
The event will take place throughout the Pioneer Square area and partially utilizing CenturyLink Field’s North lot.
In addition to the musical performances that will happen during the evening, the event will offer exhibitions and presentations related to the music, tech and film industry throughout the day.
To top it all off, attendees and artists will also have the opportunity to check out interactive keynotes and mentor-led workshops.
Upstream’s executive director Jeff Vetting reported to The Stranger that the goal is for 75% of the lineup to be made up of artists from the Pacific Northwest.
In an effort to help shine light on local talent, Vetting further explains the purpose of the newly founded festival:
“Emerging talent is the heart of any music scene … and we want to put the spotlight on to the great artists here in the Northwest. We hope to give working bands more exposure and opportunities to make a living here and not have to move to another city to make it to the next level in the industry.”
In a recent announcement, Upstream Fest revealed more than half of its lineup, giving fans a thorough idea of what to expect.
The festival is scheduled to take place between May 11-13, 2017 in the Pioneer Square area and is set to include include headlining acts Flying Lotus, AlunaGeorge, Shabazz Palaces, Beat Connection and more.
