Can you imagine a better start to your Fourth of July weekend than an outdoor, day-long party brought to you by MoMA PS1, soundtracked by Jackmaster? Me neither.
For those of you who know about MoMA PS1’s Warm Up Series, feel free to skip ahead; the lineup is one to get excited about. For the unfamiliar — let me explain.
MoMA PS1 has hosted over 20 seasons of “Warm Up,” day-long events every Saturday from 3 PM to 9 PM during the summer in the courtyard of Long Island City’s first public school, which now houses New York’s premier contemporary art museum.

In a showcase for emerging musicians and artists, every year the courtyard is transformed by a different architect (the winner of Young Architects Program) into a site-specific installation. This year’s architect is Jenny Sabin, who has constructed a piece named “Lumen.”
The installation is composed of “photoluminescent textiles that transform over the course of a day.” That’s right; the courtyard piece has color-changing, floating fabric that alters its color throughout the party.
If that all hasn’t won you over, there will also be beer and the opportunity to tour through the museum’s current exhibitions if it gets too hot outside.
If you can’t make it this weekend, don’t fret. There’s something lined up for every Saturday this summer.
